I'm tired.
And I know you are too.
But we aren't allowed to say it. Because the internet told us that if we aren't grinding 24/7, we are failing.
We bought into a lie. A toxic, shiny, highly-marketed lie.
Exhaustion Became A Personality Trait
When did "I slept 3 hours last night" become a flex?
We wear our dark circles like medals of honor.
We compete in this sick Olympics of who is the most stressed, the most busy, the most close to a breakdown.
"Rise and grind." "Sleep is for the weak."
No. Sleep is for mammals. And last I checked, you are one.
I Have Been On Both Sides
I've been the guy working 16 hours a day.
Chugging Red Bull, staring at a screen until 4 AM.
I felt important. I felt unstoppable.
Until my body physically stopped me.
Panic attacks. Brain fog. A constant, low-level hum of anxiety.
I was highly productive, but completely broken.
My Brain Never Learned How To End A Day
This is the scariest part.
When you hustle constantly, you lose the ability to stop.
Even when I took a day off, my brain wouldn't turn off.
I felt guilty for watching a movie. Guilty for taking a walk.
I had forgotten how to just exist without "producing value."
Your worth as a human is not tied to your output.
Being Busy Became Status
If you aren't busy, people think you aren't successful.
So we manufacture busyness.
We schedule pointless meetings. We reply to emails at 11 PM just so people see the timestamp.
It's performative work.
True wealth isn't a packed calendar. True wealth is an empty one.
Hustle Culture Removed The Finish Line
There is always more to do.
Another milestone. Another revenue goal. Another feature to ship.
Hustle culture tells you that you are never enough.
It moves the goalpost every time you get close.
You are running a marathon at sprint speed, and there is no finish line.
The Body Eventually Collects The Debt
You can borrow energy from tomorrow using caffeine and adrenaline.
But you have to pay it back.
With interest.
And the body always collects.
It will collect in the form of burnout, illness, or a total mental collapse.
You can't outwork biology.
Burnout Leaks Slowly Into Personality
Burnout doesn't happen overnight.
It leaks in slowly.
You stop laughing at jokes. You snap at your friends.
You lose your empathy. You become cynical.
You stop being yourself.
You become a hollow shell that just executes tasks.
Sustainable People Look Boring But They Survive
Look at the people who have been in the game for 20 years.
They don't hustle. They don't pull all-nighters.
They work their 8 hours, close the laptop, and go play with their kids.
They look boring to the hustle-bros.
But they survive. And they win in the long run.
Final Thought
Stop romanticizing your own destruction.
Take a nap. Go for a walk. Call your mom.
The work will still be there tomorrow.
— Breathe.
